Timeline of David's appearance

I thought it'd be fun to show everyone just how much characters can evolve in a short time, especially when one's art skills are still being improved. Believe it or don't, I could only draw competent stick figures and Powerpuff Girls before my first art class in 2003. That was anime class, which greatly helped my character art.

October 2003- The very first picture you see here is my very first attempt at a cartoon self-portrait. The hair was much more tame than it is now. Also, you may notice that there are just a few hairs in place of the apple stem cowlic that I later used. The triangle shape is inspired by the Powerpuff version of a cowlic (check out the green puff on the right in this picture). Why does it float above David's head? I honestly can't tell you why I decided that.

February 2004- Not much has changed since the first picture, really. The glasses are much bigger in proportion to his eyes compared to the first. You might notice Brian and Tara standing on either side, if you have a good eye (mate!). This was a draft of a group picture I did as a small project in class. It's a shame you can't see Diane, the mysterious fourth character that didn't quite make the cut in this highly qualified comic.

August 2004- This was thought to be my final design for the comic for quite a while. You can see that I'm getting the hang of drawing at this point, though it's not really up to the standards I have when I draw today (besides comics. I sometimes let the quality of my comics slide, but I try really hard on my other art). You can see the cowlic in this one, and his hair is getting slightly messier.

December 2004- Man, I should probably explain this one. Around November, I was tired of drawing anime (gasp!) all of the time, so I wanted to see if I could do something completely different. I tried to emphasize on the simplicity, so the eyes only took about one second each, and the hair got more messy than usual, like someone just rubbed a balloon on his head. I do like this picture still, it has a nice cartoony look to it, but I'm glad I switched back to what I had already. I don't get tired of drawing anime anymore, now that I can.

April 2005- I tried to look for something closer to the previous date, but I couldn't find anything that wasn't in a poor quality comic. I tried hard on this one, and you can see big changes from the first. Surprisingly, this portrait took about as long to draw as the middle picture.

What will become of David next? None remain who know</Wind Waker>
